Clark Nicol, working in Painting, Mixed-media

Clark Nicol studied painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee under Alberto Morrocco and Jack Knox, winning third prize in the Scottish Open Art Competition at Arbroath in 1971. After graduating in 1973 He moved to London where he taught art while continuing to paint. Moving to Nottingham in the 1980s his work began to develop its characteristic language of heavily textured paint evoking atmospheric landforms. Frequent visits to his wife's family in Devon led to his discovery of Dartmoor, which has since then been a great source of inspiration to him. In 2002 he moved to West Devon with his wife and their two children and he has focussed almost exclusively on the local landscape, producing some of his most rewarding work. A selection of work can also be seen at Clark Nicol Artist on facebook.
